The Ordinary Skincare - Does Affordable Skincare Actually Work?

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil and 2% Hyaluronic Acid

So if you're on Instagram you would have heard of The Ordinary; let's face it, it's everywhere. I first became aware of it on my Instagram feed a good few months ago, and for some reason I didn't think to investigate it further as I assumed it was going to be really expensive. It was only when my best friend asked me if I had heard about it, and told that it was really affordable that I realised I just had to have a look into it!

At first I found the website quite overwhelming - there is a wealth of products for all different skin types on there and it's hard to know what to pick. After a little bit of research I decided to keep it simple and order the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. A few months ago my skin was seriously lacking in hydration and as the benefits of hyaluronic acid for the skin is so well documented, I really wanted to try it. At £5.90 (I repeat, FIVE POUNDS NINETY PENCE) this has to be one of the cheapest formulas I have come across. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture magnet which binds moisture to the skin making it more hydrated, therefore making skin look less textured and more smooth.

I also wanted to try the rose-hip oil because having suffered adult acne in the past, my skin has been left with a 'mottled' appearance with some scars never wanting to fully disappear. I had read that rose-hip oil was good for evening out skin tone and reducing the appearance of scarring and again, at £9.00, how could I not try it?! The fatty acids in rose-hip oil help to improve the tone of your skin, and also help your skin repair itself meaning scarring is reduced.

However, when seemingly the same products are being sold elsewhere for substantially more money it did make me question how effective something so much cheaper can be? I'm not someone who believes that spending more money always equals better products, but surely products so affordable wouldn't perform as well as high end brands? As far as I can tell - yes they can!

I have honestly been blown away by these two products on my skin after using them for nearly a six weeks now. I put the hyaluronic acid on before my moisturiser and the rose-hip oil is the last thing I put on at night. I have definitely noticed an improvement in tone, although my scarring hasn't fully disappeared I just feel like I feel so much happier without makeup on. The biggest difference I have noticed though is in skin texture - my skin was SO textured a few weeks ago due to lack of hydration but now it is so much smoother. My makeup sits better, lasts so much longer and people have even commented that my skin looks smoother.

I am so excited by this brand and I definitely want to try more. I am really interested in the Glycolic Acid - has anyone tried this? Would be really interested to hear your thoughts.

xoxo
