An Afternoon with Smashbox Cosmetics

Smashbox Primer Water, Cover Shot Golden Hour Palette, Spotlight Highlighter Palette, Be Legendary Liquid Lip

Hello beauties! Hope you are all doing well and enjoying your week so far. Last Friday I had the absolute pleasure of being invited into the beautiful new Smashbox studio in Bluewater Shopping Centre! The lovely Clare at Smashbox asked if I would like to come along to their launch party to celebrate the opening of the new stand-alone store, to try out some of the products and find out what the brand is all about. Of course my answer was 'Err.. YES!' and along I went, excited to spend the day meeting the team and being beautified at the same time.

The store itself is so cool; of course it's full of beautiful makeup but it has these amazing make-up stations with the Hollywood bulb mirrors and even has a ring light with a selfie background so you can snap your freshly made up selfies. Smashbox started as a photography studio in LA, which then led to the need for long-lasting makeup that looks good in any lighting, so expect to find extremely flattering lighting everywhere in the store!

Anyway onto the good stuff - the makeup. I was made up by the absolutely lovely Carol who took me through all of the products from start to finish. I am ashamed to say that the only thing I have tried from Smashbox in the past is their legendary primer! I featured it in my long-wear makeup post, and for me it is the only primer that really seems to work. For reference I wear the Photo Finish Foundation Pimer Light, as I'm not overly oily. Carol also showed me the Radiance Primer which was so beautiful I put it straight on my wish list (a.k.a. never ending list of makeup I plan on buying instead of spending money on sensible things such as fixing my car).

We went through the whole works: foundation, concealer, powder, brows, eye makeup, contouring and highlighting and lastly lips. I was particularly impressed with the Studio Skin foundation; the colour was perfect for me (2.3 Warm Beige) and when I got home it looked completely flawless, although I'm sure Carol's application also had a lot to do with it.

One of the things Carol used on me which I have used every day since was the Spotlight Highlighting Palette*, which is a collab with the stunning YouTuber Casey Holmes. The highlight looked so pretty in the shop but when I got home I couldn't believe how beautiful it looked on the skin - it doesn't highlight any texture whatsoever! Perfect for us dry skin babes.

Smashbox Cover Shot Golden Hour Eyeshadow Palette, Be Legendary Liquid Lip Petal Metal

Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip Petal Metal

I was so lucky to receive one of the Cover Shot Eye Palettes* in Golden Hour in my goodie bag. Carol didn't use this on me when I was in store but the neutral shades in the palette are perfect for me and I'm excited to use that gorgeous purple/plum shade in it too. I'm going to do a more in depth review on this so I won't go on too much about it now, but I am so excited to use it.

Carol also used one of the new Be Legendary Liquid Lips* in Petal Metal on me. I have never thought of using metallic lipsticks before, to be honest I'm quite boring when it comes to lips as you may have noticed. I just don't see myself as cool enough to pull of anything wilder than a pinky nude. However, it actually looks much better than I thought it would, and just look at that swatch! (Please ignore patchy fake tan arms) It has a seriously beautiful pigment to it and it's a great lipstick to push me out of my comfort zone a little bit.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

One of the products that Carol used quite a lot on me was this Photo Finish Primer Water*. She told me that you can use this as both a primer and a setting spray and I have to say I was so in awe of the staying power that I started using this before I even took pictures for this post - #badblogger! Desi Perkins is a fan of this primer water, and if it's going to make me look anything like her I will buy a crate of this stuff ASAP. I don't know what's in it but I can only assume that it's the tears of an angel because this spray is amazing. My makeup hasn't budged since I've been using it, and if I spray it after my makeup application it takes away any powdery residue and makes my foundation look flawless. LOVE!

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick Posy Pink

I also treated myself to some new lipsticks in the shades Monogamous, Fireball and Posy Pink (pictured above). Fireball is a bright orange based red with a matte finish, and whilst totally different for me I can't wait to wear it on holiday with a tan. Posy Pink is a rosy shade which is a bit darker than my normal nude and Monogamous is a beautiful creamy nude colour - totally a 'Laura' shade haha! I'll try and do a few makeup looks on Instagram with these I haven't actually tried them out just yet.

My experience in Smashbox was fab - it was so nice to spend my afternoon with genuinely lovely people and talking about makeup! I cannot recommend the studio enough: if you have a night out or just want to try something new the makeup is gorgeous and the artists are all so talented! I also just wanted to say a big thank you to Clare for inviting me to such a lovely day and for all my gorgeous goodies - can't wait to have a play!

Have you tried anything from Smashbox? What's your favourite product?

xoxo
