NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Unlaced Review

NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Unlaced

Back last year when the NARS Velvet Lip Glides came out I was sooo tempted to get one - I just loved the sound of them. They are described as having the consistency of a lip-gloss, coverage of a lipstick and a semi-matte finish. They sounded so appealing because I love the look of matte liquid lipsticks but sometimes I struggle with the dry feeling - I just feel desperate to apply lip balm or lip gloss pretty much as soon as they're on. Anyway, for whatever reason I didn't buy one but I was given a lovely surprise last week when my friend Katerina bought me one as a little present for taking some baby pictures for her. She nailed the colour choice, Unlaced, which is the one I was tempted by!

Unlaced is a beautiful pink with a warm peachy undertone. It is like a perfect nude colour - sometimes with peachy pinks I find they can almost go too peach but this definitely stays on the pinky side. I applied it onto bare lips with no lip liner and I was really impressed with the coverage. It is definitely more like a liquid lipstick coverage rather than a gloss, and I couldn't see my natural lip colour underneath. It also glides on quite smoothly and the coverage was very even across my lips.

The consistency is lovely, it's quite thin and it isn't sticky at all so you don't feel like you have anything on. The finish at first is glossy, but then it dries down to a semi-matte finish and it looks really beautiful. Even when it dries though it doesn't actually feel drying, which I think is due to oils they put in the lip glides to keep them nourishing instead of drying.

In terms of longevity, I wouldn't say that this is the longest lasting. It lasted for about 3-4 hours on me, but considering it is a kind of lipstick/lip-gloss hybrid I would say that this is what I would expect. I'm also one of those people that constantly rubs their lips together (that sounds really weird reading that back, but hopefully you know what I mean) so maybe it would last longer if I didn't do this. The good thing is is that it's easy to apply on the go so the longevity doesn't really bother me too much.

Overall the Lip Glide was exactly what I thought it would be like, and I'm really glad to have a new addition to my lip family that's totally different to anything else I've got! I really love the semi-matte finish as it gives that beautiful matte look to the lips but without the dryness which is just perfect for me.

Have you tried any of the Velvet Lip Glides? What shades have you tried?

xoxo
