My Holy Grail Highlighter: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

I wanted to carry on my Holy Grail series with my favourite highlighter and probably one of my all time favourite makeup products in general - MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. This is my absolute go-to highlighter, no matter what makeup I have on, or whether I'm fake tanned or not this always looks so perfect. My camera really cannot do it justice in this winter lighting - it's so dark at the moment that I can't pick up the beautiful shimmer in this product!

MAC say that this is 'a luxurious, slow-baked, velvety soft, domed face powder with a radiant finish' and after using it for a long while now I can definitely say that it's true. It literally feels like velvet when you feel it, due to the finely milled powders which give it that beautifully luxurious finish. I absolutely love the colour of this - it's a stunning peachy gold colour, which is warm enough to not look frosty but has enough cool tones that it'd not too dark for my fairer skin. Having said that when I do have fake tan on this looks so pretty on the skin, and it never has that 'ashy' look. It is definitely subtle enough to go with a natural look as well as a heavier look, so I never worry about wearing it in the day time.

Out of all my highlighters this is my favourite because it literally looks like a lit-within glow - I never feel like I'm actually wearing highlighter. I have other highlighters that I love but they have more of the 'obvious' glow that really shows up - sometimes that's what I want but more often than not I will opt for Soft & Gentle for a beachy/natural glow.

I tend to just wear this on the high points on my face - on my cheekbones, above the brow, down the centre of my nose, and cupids bow. What is interesting however is that MAC say you can blend it out it all over the face 'for a sheer luminous polish to the skin'. I have never tried this before; in my mind I can only imagine highlighter all over the face would make you look like C3PO but I would definitely be interested in trying that method! (If any of you do this let me know how it turns out?!)

If you have ever thought about buying this or you're thinking it's one of those over-hyped products that doesn't live up to it's rep, I would seriously recommend trying this one and can assure you that it definitely delivers. The price point is amazing compared to other highlighters in the high-end market (£24 at the time of posting) and it lasts for such a long time, it is well worth the money.

What's your favourite highlighter? (I'm thinking about trying BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop next - is it good?! )

xoxo

  4. I have to say if I had to take one highlighter with my on a deserted island it would be my Mac Soft & Gentle. I think it is generally that all around perfect highlighter. It's such a unique and stunning colour and is one that you can, like you said, use as a cheekbone highlighter or also under the brow! xx

    1. I know what you mean, sometimes if I use too much it can look glittery. Like you say I just try to go minimal with it and buff it in - I think that's why it has lasted me so long! x
