Superfacialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask Review

Super Facialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask

Don't you just love the TK Maxx beauty section? I get totally excited to see what they've got, you never know when you're going to find a complete gem in amongst all the random stuff. It's like a heavenly jumble sale for beauty addicts. When I was there last I saw this Super Facialist by Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask. I had seen this and been tempted by it in Boots before, where the full price was £9.99. For whatever reason I didn't pick it up but when I saw it for the bargain price of £2.99, in the basket it went.

The mask says 'boost skin moisture levels and radiance with Superfacialist thirst-quenching Intense Moisture Mask developed even for the most sensitive skins'. Having dry skin and having had acne prone skin in the past, I felt the angels singing as I read it - it sounded perfect for me. The ingredients include White Willow extract, which helps with skin cell renewal and marshmallow, which is meant to plump the skin. All of these convinced me I was about to have the skin of a newborn baby and I couldn't wait to get it on my face. Sadly however, this wasn't the case for me.

The first thing I noticed was the smell. Of course I was expecting a slight rose scent - but this seemed really strong. Perfume is one of the ingredients in this, which I thought was strange to add in perfume to a product that claims it was developed for sensitive skin types. Luckily my skin doesn't react to perfume too much but I just thought the smell was really overpowering for a 'sensitive skin' product.

Anyway, onto the application. The texture is lovely, really thick and what you would expect from a good face mask. It says to apply a generous layer, leave for at least 5 minutes and then rinse off with warm water or with a damp flannel. I did just that but within a minute or two this mask started to dry, even though I applied a thick layer as directed. I could feel my skin actually tightening, which I really didn't expect from a moisturising mask. I don't know if it was just me but by the time 5 minutes was up I really couldn't wait to get it off, it was starting to feel itchy.

I used it a few times to see if it would make any difference to my skin but after the third use I had to stop. If anything my skin seemed drier; my forehead was the worst bit and even my favourite foundation was looking awful on my skin all of a sudden. I was really disappointed because I really wanted to love it and there are so many good reviews on this product!  Maybe it was just me, or for some reason my skin just didn't get along with it. The only good thing is that I didn't pay full price for it so it was a good way to try it out.

Have you tried this face mask? What did you think?

xoxo
