New Nikon 35mm f/1.8G Lens

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G Lens

Eeeeeek I have a new baby! (Serious heart eye emojis). After having my DSLR camera for 5 years I finally purchased a lens to replace the kit lens it came with. Well I say purchase, this was actually a present from my mum and dad for my birthday back in July (thank you x!). I only just got round to choosing it and after doing a bit of research I decided to go for this one. I have to confess, I just rely on my iPhone to take pictures most of the time. I know the basics of how to use my camera and I like to use it in manual mode, but I just always reach for my iPhone. Mainly because it's quick and easy; I don't feel stupid taking pictures in public and the quality is good enough for Instagram which is pretty much the only social media I really post to regularly! However now I have this blog I thought it was about time I used my DSLR and really got to grips with it.

I chose the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G lens after reading several reviews - I wanted a lens that would take sharp pictures with blurry backgrounds for that dreamy effect, but I also didn't want a mega expensive one to start with as I am definitely still learning. Most of the reviews I read said it was good for blurring the background and that it was also great for low light photography. We live in quite a low level house and so sometimes good natural lighting can be hard to get, especially when it's grey outside (aka all of the time in the UK). I eventually decided to bite the bullet after reading this post by Wish Wish Wish which cropped up in my search.

After a searching online I purchased my lens through E-Finity Cameras. It was a bit cheaper than a few other retailers online, and nearly £40 cheaper than the local photography shop in town! I read a few reviews of the company which were overall very positive so felt happy to place the order. The only thing that was a slight negative for me was that it took over a week to arrive. I thought that was quite a long time for an item which was in stock when I ordered it. In reality, I know that isn't a very long time but when so many retailers offer next day delivery, I would have been happier if it had stated on the website that it would take that long before you order it. I'm one of those people who want it yesterday when I buy something online so I probably would have paid a bit extra to have it quicker. I will say however, that when I emailed them on the fifth day to question when it would be dispatched they emailed me back within two hours, so A+ for communication.

I'm really going to try and get out of the habit of using my iPhone and reach for my DSLR instead (fingers crossed!). I have been using and practising with it for a few weeks now and so far I have really enjoyed using it. At the moment I am trying to get sharper pictures as they don't look as crisp as I would hope for, but hopefully I will get there in the end :) If you have any good tips I would love to hear them!

Have a good week!

xoxo
