NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Review

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation Review

I know I am probably the last person on earth to review NARS Sheer Glow, but I love trying new foundations and this has been on my 'To Try' list since forever. I haven't bought it before because my skin used to be very spot prone and I have always used full coverage foundations, but everyone raves about it and now my skin has cleared up I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

I matched myself to two colours - Deauville for my normal colouring and Santa Fe for when I have fake tan on. I'm sure the assistant thought I was crazy for picking Santa Fe; at the time of purchase I looked like death warmed up and most definitely not a healthy colour but I was confident it would be a good match. The foundation is £31.00 and I bought the pump separately, which for me is one of the only negatives of this foundation. I felt like I needed the pump though because I had premonitions of me pouring it all over myself and the carpet in one go otherwise.

The consistency is quite thin which I really like, and to my surprise, the coverage isn't actually as sheer as the name would suggest. I would say it is a medium coverage but you can build it up to almost full. It covers scars from old spots and small blemishes really well, but you may want extra concealer for really noticeable blemishes.

The other surprising thing about this foundation is the finish. I thought this would be a dewy foundation however I actually find this to be a semi-matte finish rather than super glowy. I don't mind this too much as I usually wear matte foundations anyway, but if you want a more luminous foundation I would suggest Georgio Armani Luminous Silk instead. This is also the only foundation I've tried where I can't use my beloved Beauty Blender with it. I found that it makes the foundation too 'dry' looking on my skin, especially around my forehead where my skin is already particularly dry. I found the finish was much better using my Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush and it also seemed to spread further. I also find putting a face oil on before my normal moisturiser helps to stop it looking too dry but this is only on days where my skin is feeling like it needs extra moisture anyway.

The staying power is good, but I do have dry skin so most foundations last on me for a reasonable amount of time. I got a good 8 hours of wear out of the foundation, setting it with a powder but without using a primer. I'm really not sure how it would perform on oily skin - anyone who has combination-oily skin have you tried this foundation?

Overall I really do love this foundation, although it has taken me a few goes to get it 'right' if that makes sense. I didn't instantly fall in love with it but now I've got the hang of what to apply it with I like it more and more each time I use it. I think it will become one of my go-to's on the 'good skin' days or days where I don't want a heavy foundation, but I don't think it will be my every day base.

xoxo

  2. You look stunning in these pictures. This foundation is my absolute fav. I apply it first with the Real Techniques Stipling brush and then buff it in using the Real Techniques Buffing brush. I've been doing it that way for 5 years! x

    1. Oh wow thank you so much that's so nice of you. Yes you're right, the brush is definitely the way to go, I got much better results with a brush than a beauty blender!! Xx

  3. I forgot I actually bought this foundation earlier this year, thanks for reminding me, haha! I have a drier skin and don't like anything matte, especially in winter, its too dull and flat looking. I usually apply foundation with my fingers, it gels better with the warmth of the skin, but this one needs a brush I feel. I'm getting the BB fff brush for xmas..so will be playing with Nars again soon.

    1. Apparently NARS do say the best application is with your fingers so you may be lucky with this one! But I'm just so used to using a brush or beauty blender. Ooo you will love the BB brush it is really good :) Xx
